I directed the first production of the 2011-2012 Season at Missouri Western and we opened it with a production of Romeo & Juliet. I was especially proud of everyone involved. Many of these students have never even read Shakespeare before, let alone performed his text. They tackled this with a hunger and passion I’ve rarely seen before.
Needless to say, I chose the Civil War as the backdrop of for our Romeo & Juliet. Celebrating the 150th Anniversary in one a city that prides itself on being the starting point of the Pony Express and it’s history from this era helped with the success of this production.
